• The heated blade pinches off the tail while the wound is simultaneously sealed
• A special pinching bracket serves as a tail holder

During the docking process, the tails of newborn piglets are cauterised and the blood vessels are sealed at the same time. The immediate sealing of the vessels prevents the ingress of pathogens. As a rule, the tails are left at a length of approx. 2–3 cm. The purpose of docking is to prevent cannibalism among pigs, which can be triggered by long tails during the rearing and fattening phase.
