To enable bowel irrigations for intensive care patients or during childbirth, an optimised bowel irrigation system is available:

It consists of the proven Economy contrast medium bag with screw cap and shut-off clamp, a sterile 50/60 ml syringe with catheter valve, and a rectal tube with balloon.

Use is very simple: the rectal tube allows irrigation fluid to be introduced from the bag into the bowel in a controlled manner. The bag is then placed on the floor so the contents can flow back, and the system can be disposed of. The syringe is used both for inflating the balloon and for the administration of irrigation fluids if required. The actual examination with Frenzel goggles takes place in a dark room or a heavily dimmed room. The internal illumination of the goggles interrupts the patient’s visual contact with their surroundings (elimination of fixation that suppresses nystagmus).
