Gauze Compresses for Safe Wound Healing

Various Compresses for Every Treatment

Gauze, also known as mull, is a type of material woven into a loosely structured fabric with an open weave. Gauze can be made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibres. It is widely used in medical care to cover wounds or to treat burns and other skin injuries.

Compresses are pieces of fabric soaked in liquids and applied to a specific area of the body to reduce inflammation and lower temperature. Gauze is available in various widths and densities and can be used as a compression bandage or as a wound dressing. It is placed directly on the wound to stop bleeding and then wrapped with an additional layer of fabric or gauze to keep it in place.

Advantages of a Gauze Compress

A compression bandage is a type of dressing that is applied to an injured or swollen part of the body. It exerts pressure on the injury, which supports the recovery process. The compression bandage helps to reduce swelling and increase blood circulation in the injured area. This accelerates the healing process and shortens the recovery time. Because compresses lie directly on the wound, they must meet high standards. The injured skin should not be irritated by the gauze compress, and it must be able to absorb sufficient wound exudate. In our shop, you will find various gauze compresses that are four-, six- or twelve-ply and can therefore be used in a versatile manner. MAIMED MK gauze compresses are delivered ready for use and are highly absorbent thanks to 100% cotton. Folded cut edges prevent the formation of loose threads, ensuring clean application and optimal wound healing.

Areas of Application for Compresses

To keep dirt particles away from wounds and to properly cover the wound area, a gauze compress is required. This can be used in two ways: as a compression wrap or as a surgical dressing. A compression wrap is applied directly over an injury and provides constant pressure for 24 hours. A surgical dressing is applied over sutures or staples and removed once healing has progressed to the point where it is no longer needed. Especially in first aid, gauze compresses are indispensable, as they can be fixed quickly and easily. If ointments or similar products are prescribed to accelerate wound healing, a compress can be used to cover the treated area. This keeps the antibiotic continuously on the wound and allows it to take effect over a sustained period.
