What Is Incontinence?
Incontinence is defined as the uncontrolled loss of urine when the bladder is fully or partially filled. A distinction is made between different forms of incontinence. One form is urge incontinence, in which a very sudden urge to urinate leads to involuntary urine loss. This is usually caused by inflammation. In stress or effort incontinence, urine is lost involuntarily during physical strain that is associated with increased abdominal pressure. In addition to coughing and sneezing, causes may also include laughing, lifting and carrying objects, or simply climbing stairs. Women in particular often struggle with bladder weakness from a certain age, as multiple childbirths can lead to overstretching and weakening of the ligaments and the pelvic floor.
In addition to medication, pelvic floor training and surgical procedures, there are a number of aids that do not eliminate the cause of the problem but can significantly ease everyday life for those affected. In severe cases of incontinence, adult diapers are one option. An incontinence bed padprotects the mattress from moisture and can be easily replaced. Incontinence pads are also suitable for examination tables and stretchers in healthcare settings. In addition, there is incontinence underwear available for both women and men. Breathable, moisture-proof and washable options include, for example, the Suprima Bodyguard Slip. Suprima Bodyguard slip. For mild to moderate bladder weakness, men can use a similar model in the form of boxer shorts.
