Thoracic Drainage Simulator
This trainer was specifically designed for theoretical and anatomical teaching, as well as for imparting the skills required in the management of pre-hospital thoracic trauma and the ongoing care of a chest drain. The right side of the simulator features two windows showing the anatomical relationships between the skin surface, musculature, ribs and lungs. On the left side there is a simulated tension pneumothorax, which can be pressurised using a pump. In addition, the simulator provides an access point for the surgical insertion of chest drains, allowing practice of the treatment of pleural effusions by draining fluid from the pleural cavity. The colour, volume and viscosity of the fluid are controlled by the instructor. The chest drainage manikin is ideal for teaching the concepts and mechanical operation of closed drainage systems with a water seal, e.g. systems such as “Pleur-Evac”. The simulator is supplied with a transport case. Also included are 5 replacement inserts for each of the two access points.
