What Are Fixation Bandages?

Fixation bandages are gauze bandages used to stabilise an injured extremity. They are also used to treat oedema through the application of compression. They are applied to support the healing process by stabilising the affected area and providing compression. They can be used to treat pain, swelling and inflammation. Fixation dressings are available in many forms, such as gauze, adhesive strips, elastic wraps and compression bandages.

There are many ways in which fixation bandages can be applied incorrectly. One of the most common mistakes is not using the fastening tension correctly. The bandage should not slip, but it should also not be too tight in order to avoid pain and discomfort for the patient.
