Fresenius Kabi – leading in nutrition, infusion & medicines
As early as the 18th century, the Hirsch Apotheke, founded in 1462, became part of the Fresenius family. Up until the 20th century, the pharmacy was also used as a small laboratory. In 1912 it was expanded into a production facility, focusing on medicines and injection solutions. In 1933 production was officially separated from the pharmacy and relocated to Bad Homburg. Even at that time, what is now Fresenius Kabi already had around 400 employees. In 1966, Fresenius Kabi was able to take over the distribution of certain international manufacturers and thus gain significant market share in the medical sector. In 1974, the manufacture of infusion solutions began, and as early as 1979 the first ready-to-use tube feed Fresubin® was launched. In 1998, the business division for international clinical nutrition was acquired from Pharmacia & Upjohn. On 1 January 1999, Fresenius and the acquired division were brought together, giving rise to the name Fresenius Kabi AG that is still used today.

The nutrition division is split into enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition. In enteral nutrition (tube feeding), oral nutritional supplements and tube feeds as well as supplements are offered. In parenteral nutrition, multi-chamber bags and individual components such as fat emulsions, amino acids, vitamins and trace elements are available.

The range of infusions from Fresenius Kabi includes not only volume replacement but also carrier solutions and electrolyte solutions. For this reason, specific solutions for paediatrics are also available.
