The actual examination with Frenzel goggles takes place in a dark room or a heavily dimmed room. The internal illumination of the goggles interrupts the patient’s visual contact with their surroundings (elimination of fixation that suppresses nystagmus). At the same time, the brightly illuminated eyes can be observed particularly well under the magnifying lenses. This makes it possible in many cases to detect pathological nystagmus in primary gaze that cannot be seen, or cannot be seen reliably, without the goggles even when looking to the side. With the Type 503 nystagmus goggles it is possible to carry out short examinations on the patient. This model enables cordless operation and can be used independently of the mains power supply. Power is supplied via the permanently upward-mounted, adjustable battery handle, which holds three size C LR14/AM-2 batteries (R14 “Baby” cells), 1.5 volts each. - with fixed lenses - without batteries
