Canidex® combines essential nutrients for joint metabolism – various sources of glycosaminoglycans (glucosamine sulphate, chondroitin sulphate, hyaluronic acid), organic sulphur and omega fatty acids – with a variety of plants and extracts such as devil’s claw, willow bark and frankincense. Matched vitamins, trace elements and methionine are added to support general wellbeing.
What does the combination of structural and functional elements include?
To counteract joint wear, the body needs different groups of nutrients; structural and functional substances are combined here.
Structural:
As building blocks of joint metabolism, glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) provide molecules to regenerate the lubricants in synovial fluid and thus promote nourishment of the articular cartilage. These include, on the one hand, small glucosamine molecules that form the framework and, on the other hand, high-molecular-weight GAGs (e.g. chondroitin), which are converted into usable building blocks and in the process additionally release functional substances.
For this balanced GAG supply, the ratio of large to small molecules is also important for the formulation, as contained in Canidex® (ratio of high-molecular-weight to low-molecular-weight GAGs = 3:1). Sulphur is another structural building block and is used here in an organic, bioavailable form.
Functional:
Omega fatty acids play an essential role in supporting joint metabolism and have therefore become standard in joint-specific feeds. Canidex® also contains the biologically optimal ratio of omega fatty acids, with an omega-3 to omega-6 ratio of 4:1.
An interesting function also results from the breakdown of large GAG molecules (e.g. chondroitin): so-called “cytokines” are released, whose task is intercellular communication during synthesis processes. Plants and their extracts, such as willow bark, devil’s claw, ginger, frankincense and wintergreen oil, complete this formulation.
Both the presence of all required nutrients and the integrity of the joint capsule are prerequisites for rapid regeneration.
