This 3B Scientific® pathology model shows, at 8x magnification on the front and back, 6 different stages of black skin cancer (= malignant melanoma):

black cells are located superficially in the epidermis
black cells fill the epidermis, with a few in the papillary dermis
black cells fill the papillary dermis
black cells migrate through the reticular dermis
black cells have reached the subcutaneous fatty tissue; satellite cells are located near a vein

In the top view, the externally visible skin changes of the individual stages can be seen and allow an assessment according to the “ABCDE” criteria. On the sides of the model, the different depths of invasion into the skin layers according to Clark (I–V) and Breslow (in mm) are indicated.
