General information about the blood pressure monitor:
The blood pressure monitor can be used to measure a person’s arterial pressure externally, on the upper arm or on the wrist. Arterial blood pressure values are usually given in the non-SI unit millimetres of mercury (mmHg or Torr). The devices display the upper (systolic) and the lower (diastolic) arterial pressure.

Classic arterial pressure measurement is performed on the upper arm using mechanical devices. A cuff is connected via tubes to an analogue pressure gauge and a rubber bulb. The pressure cuff is placed on the upper arm directly above the elbow and inflated using the rubber bulb. When the pressure is slowly released, turbulent sounds (Korotkoff sounds) occur; using a stethoscope, these are used to determine the systolic and diastolic arterial pressure values (auscultatory measurement).
